Remembering Eva
Our hearts are shocked and saddened in the tragic loss of our sister in Christ, Eva. Eva was killed yesterday (Tuesday January 18) when a single engine plane crashed into their camper in Myrtle beach, SC. Tom was treated for first degree burns and released from the hospital and remains in South Carolina at this time. Their children are headed to be with him. May God's presence be known as we all support each other through this hard time. Let us remember Eva. Let us celebrate her faith - her humor - and her love.

I wrote this the morning of 1/19/2011 - Last night was a hard night. I woke up nearly every hour and the tears are coming faster today - as it all sinks in. Each time I woke up I tried to pray for Eva's family and friends.
ReplyDeleteThis morning, I opened my "Grace for the Moment" daily inspirations by Max Lucado (a favorite of I think all of us :). I wanted to share the things that made me think of Eva and gave me - Grace for the moment!
God's Good Timing: Luke 18:7 God will always give what is right to his people who cry to him night and day, and he will not be slow to answer them! (exclamation point added by me). Max's final comment on this verse was "Though you hear nothing, he is speaking. Though you see nothing, he is acting. With God there are no accidents. Every incident is intended to bring us closer to him." From his book A Gentle Thunder
When I thought Wow! God knew I needed that, I decided to read another devotion. And the next one was "Clothes of Salvation" quoting 1 Corinthians 15:53 "This body that dies must clothe itself with something that can never die." and Romans 13:14 "But clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ" Galations 3:26 - 27 "You were all baptized into CHrist and so you were all clothed with Christ. This means that you are all children of God through faith in Jesus Christ." (Sister Eva!) and finally Isaiah 61:10: "The LORD makes me very happy; all that I am rejoices in my God. He has covered me with clothes of salvation and wrapped me with a coat of goodness." These verses reminded me of Eva at Bible study especially (Mark - Thank you for leading that all these years! It is now a comfort to me having been with Eva in many studies and bantered with her inquisitive mind.). I am confident of where she is and who will be waiting for each of us when we join her!
And although I am teary even now, it's just due to the fact that I'll miss her presence here - as we all will. But I rejoice with her as to where she is now! What a comfort!!!
Peace.

ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely in shock that we've lost such a friend (at least for a little while). I remember first meeting Eva about 36 years ago, when I think she had first come here. She was friends with my mother, who was the town librarian at the time. My now husband, Peter (who worked in the library), and I had just started dating and Eva followed our romance with close attention. She was warm and just loved a good story. We had a lot of laughs during those times. I’ll miss her and remember her with fondness.
Hello! Julian and I just got the shocking news about Eva. We are so sad for her loss and that of her remaining families and friends. We loved her as a Christian friend and are sure God has her in His compassionate care for all eternity. Wish we could embrace you all at this very difficult time. With deepest sympathy at our tragic loss, Nancee and Julian
ReplyDeleteEva was a co-worker, a neighbor and more importantly, my friend. It doesn't seem real and it seems so unfair. I am struck by how specific this action was...almost like God said "I need YOU now" and took her away from us. He must have had an important job for her. I really have to believe that. The next few months, especially, will be hard. I know I will look over at the house and expect to see her. Pray for Tom and her family.
